exhaust Exhausts, Catalytic convertors and DPF’s

Clean and efficient

Exhaust systems are another integral part of your vehicle that have become more complicated in order to improve efficiency and reduce emissions (better for you, better for the planet). To keep your exhaust system operating properly it needs regular maintenance and in some cases a full service to avoid a loss in overall vehicle performance and fuel efficiency.

Common components.

While the basics of exhaust pipes and mufflers remain relatively unchanged, new exhaust systems now also include catalytic converters which convert the harmful emissions from your exhaust, and in the case of modern diesel engines, a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) which catches ‘soot’ particles. Diesel vehicles also require a fluid referred to as AdBlue (or DEF) which is injected into the exhaust system to reduce emissions even further. As a consumable, AdBlue levels need to be maintained but we can check and top up as required as a part of an exhaust system check or service.

Benefits of an efficient exhaust system:

  • Keeps your vehicle running smoothly
  • Reduces harmful emissions
  • Maintains or even (when serviced) improves fuel economy

How can I tell if my exhaust requires attention?

  • If your car is vibrating or losing power, it may be an exhaust issue
  • ‘Check Engine Light’ may indicate a catalytic converter problem
  • Rattling noises may also indicate a failing catalytic converter, get it checked asap
  • A loud exhaust is likely an issue with the muffler or pipes
  • Decreased fuel efficiency may be an issue with the exhaust
